Boiling Food

My go to water seasonings

Boiling Food

What does spaghetti, chicken, green beans, hot dogs, and eggs all have in common? You can prepare them by boiling them in water.

Boiling food easily fits into the “easy” category, but in many cases, you lose nutrients and flavor. Vegetables will lose nutrients and meat will absolutely lose flavor. Pasta absorbs moisture, so if it’s absorbing flavorless water prior to any sauce you add, your dish is missing out.

When boiling your food in water, consider adding salt at a minimum. More advanced palettes will prefer adding Knorr’s Caldo con Sabor de Pollo (Chicken Bouillon) to the water before boiling. Puritans will prefer a broth boil like Swanson’s Chicken Broth. Any of these methods will provide more flavor to your food than just plain water.

The bottom line is to avoid just using water. Add something to it.

  1. Oh man, you’ve got to make your own stock. It’s WAY better. We freeze the ends and scraps from veggies and our bones and dump them together to create amazing stocks that make everything taste better – and it’s so easy – with way less sodium and none of the additives! You MUST try it. And if you must purchase it boxed, Kitchen Basics is bar none the BEST one out there. We did a taste test of all the ones we could find on the market from pricey, organics, store brands, etc. They won across the board!
